VTN: Connecting Christ to the Masses in the Digital Age
Today, VTN faces its greatest challenge ever.
The Federal government has enacted legislation forcing every TV station in America to turn off their original analog TV signal forever by midnight February 17, 2009. These “analog” stations are the local TV stations we have all watched and enjoyed over the past 50 years - including VTN.
Most stations, including VTN, are currently broadcasting in two formats - digital and analog. Viewers with digital television sets are already enjoying better picture quality. Those with the older analog sets are still getting programming as they always have. But that will change when the analog signals will stop. At that point, if you get TV broadcasts with an antenna over the air, you will receive only digital signals.
That doesn’t mean you need to get a new television set. There will be converter boxes to change the digital signal to one that analog sets can receive. Of course, the picture and sound will not be digital quality. If you currently receive your programming through a satellite or cable provider, your provider can tell you what equipment you will need and when. If you get your signal over the air, you will have to get a converter box for your analog set.
Like all TV stations, we are now required by the Federal Communications Commission to replace our three analog TV stations that make up the VTN network - with three new digital TV stations.
Entering the digital era will give VTN even greater opportunities to impact more people with the life-changing message of Jesus Christ. Our coverage area will extend even farther into Missouri, Mississippi and Western Tennessee - even going well beyond the Memphis area. And right here in Arkansas our new digital signal will allow us to reach additional cities currently not receiving VTN.
