KVTJ Broadcast Engineer


Reports To: KVTJ Operations Manager
FSLA Status: Exempt

Principal Purpose of Job:
The KVTJ Broadcast Engineer will install, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair broadcast equipment and transmitter systems at the KVTJ transmitter site near Trumann, Arkansas. The employee will also work at the remote microwave sites that relay the VTN network signal from Little Rock to KVTJ to ensure proper operational status. These four (4) microwave sites are spread out between England, Arkansas and the KVTJ site near Trumann, Arkansas.

Work Environment:
Broadcast technical duties are performed inside the main TV station facility inside remote microwave sites and outside at all of the above sites working on back-up generators and other peripheral equipment. While a significant amount of the duties are performed inside climate controlled facilities, some duties are performed outside as needed from time to time in all four seasons and a variety of weather conditions.

Essential Job Functions:
1. Install, troubleshoot, and implement both preventive and corrective maintenance on broadcast equipment, peripherals at the station and remote facilities, to include microwave STL equipment, high power UHF transmitter, cooling systems, and high voltage power supplies.
2. Serve in an on-call capacity to resolve technical problems both by phone and by driving to remote facilities.
3. Maintain high-quality on-air product and ensure the legal operation per the rules of the FCC make entries in and maintain station logs and records.
4. Use Microsoft Office and other commonly used software to generate reports and fill out operational logs be able to conduct station business via e-mail, texts and other commonly used 21st century communication technology.

Additional Job Functions:
1. Visit cable TV facilities and other reception areas as needed to verify reception of KVTJ signal and to make technical measurements.
2. Work with contractors and service providers at the TV station and our remote sites to verify that their work has been done in compliance with work orders.
3. Coordinate with manufacturers and vendors regarding repair and research on TV station equipment.
4. KVTJ houses a small studio designed to conduct interviews from Northeast Arkansas for our flagship programs. Guest interviews are booked sporadically, not on a daily basis. The interviews are produced and directed from the VTN studios in Little Rock. You may be called on to help conduct the interview by greeting the guest setting up audio and operating the camera during the interview.

Qualifications and Capabilities:
1. An Associate`s degree in electronics or related experience in electronic communications is required a Bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred.
2. At least two (2) years of experience in broadcast electronics preferred, but new graduates are welcome. SBE certification is preferred.
3. Experience with high power transmitters is required experience with IOT or other high power tubes is preferred.
4. Working knowledge of FCC regulations and experience with microwave STL links, MPEG / ASI / HD-SDI / other digital video formats, generators, motors, HVAC systems, and computer networking are a plus.
5. Must have solid personal integrity, a good work ethic, and be able to work both independently and with supervision.
6. Must be able to lift and carry items up to 50 pounds climb ladders and work in tight spaces must have a clean driving record and the ability to drive a company vehicle. Driving records will be checked before hire and periodically during employment.
7. Must be willing to be on call 24/7 and work nights, holidays and weekends as needed. Carriage of company provided cell phone is required.

KVTJ Technician



VTN (The Victory Television Network) Your Arkansas Christian Connection.

Location: 28999 Hwy 214 East, Trumann, Arkansas, across the highway from the historic Judd Hill Plantation.

Experience: Applicants should have a minimum of 2 years’ experience maintaining electro-mechanical equipment. Educational qualification may be considered in lieu of the job experience. RF and A/V experience preferred.

Duties: Maintain and repair to component level all types of equipment along the broadcast chain of KVTJ starting from the station’s 4 microwave signal relay sites to the transmitter. This includes, but are not limited to, site inspections, completion of checklist tasks, cleaning of facilities, help in projects and office tasks. Perform tasks relating to compliance with FCC regulations as directed by the Chief Engineer.

Work Environment: Broadcast technical duties are performed inside the main TV station facility; inside remote microwave sites; outside at all of the above sites working on back-up generators and other peripheral equipment. Skills and Abilities: Possess the ability to repair and maintain electro-mechanical equipment; must be able to communicate clearly in writing or verbally; possess a strong work ethic; follow assigned tasks through to completion in a timely manner; working knowledge of Microsoft Office and all appropriate modern communication technology such as texting, smartphones and tablets. Must be able to lift and carry items up to 50 pounds; climb ladders and work in tight spaces. Must have a valid Driver's license. Driving records will be checked before hire and periodically during employment. Must be willing to be on call 24/7 and work nights, holidays and weekends as needed. Carriage of company provided cell phone is required.

Education: Associate degree in Electronics or High School graduate with at least two years of relevant experience. SBE Certification preferred.

Salary: $33,000.00 annual.
